An Impression of a dunkles brewed by Riedenburger Brauhaus
It’s time to open another bottle of an organic beer. There are not that many brands around offering organic beers. That means choices are limited. But that doesn’t mean that I’m bound to organic only. I prefer it.
The Riedenburger Brauhaus is brewing in contract for the Beneditkinerabtei Plankenstetten. Monks are known to brew good beer but that doesn’t give credits for the tasting.
The colour is what I expect from a Dunkles: it’s dark. The flavour is clean. It comes with a bouquet of burned malt, malt, a little caramel, cereals, oil and a little cardboard. Foam stability is very good. It stays stable for quite a while. The label states that it is unfiltered but I couldn’t confirm that.
Where the smell was ok the taste doesn’t impress me that much. It’s a little sweet, sometimes bitter and a little astringent. It is full bodied, but this comes from the malt and the alcohol.
It’s a well produced Dunkles without any extra or happy end. It’s the kind of beer every brewer might be able to produce. Eating some good organic bread while drinking this beer completes a “Brotzeit” very well.
The beer was poured from a bottle.
