The romantic road and its beers - Wallerstein Zwickel

First things first: Happy new year everyone!

In the south of Germany, in the north of Swabian lays the small town of Wallerstein. Wallerstein is known because of the Romatic Road, the castle of the Duke of Oettingen-Wallerstein and the Wallerstein brewery & beer. The brewery has a history of over 400 years, which should be enough to produce decent beers.

The last one I had on the table was the Wallerstein Classic, which is a decent Pilsen type beer. Now its the Wallerstein Zwickel. According to its labels it is a “mouthful cellar beer”. Advertisement is advertisement is advertisement. What should I expect from a cellar beer, what would you expect?

A brown nearly amber like unfiltered colour of course. And a malt, wort, honey smell. The emphasis is on the wort. Pair it with a sweat, little bitter taste and nearly no body – tada – you get a cellar beer.

I guess the duke shouldn't play that much polo and better check the products of his brewery.

The beer was poured from a bottle.
