Black Isle Organic Yellow Hammer
A long time ago I put the Black Isle brewery onto Lautering.net. A friend of mine added their beers. When I walked through a Finish supermarket I noticed some of their beers. I took their Yellow Hammer Summer Ale together with some others for my stash.
It didn't stay long in my stash. Actually for only three hours. The label on the backside of the bottle states „Save the planet – drink organic“ . I guess they are right. But statements alone don't make good beers. Let's check if it lauters.
Poured from a bottle into a glass the white coarse foam stayed on top of the near amber coloured liquid for some time. I could already smell the floral, fruity, citric flavour. From that I could derive its bitter taste. Sticking my nose onto the glass I didn't find that much more flavours.
The taste has proven my nose to be right. All over it is bitter, bitter and more bitter. The bitterness stays for a long time. There is also lemon cake (as my wife put it) and the mouth feel is like coffee. The body was a little too week where carbonation was within range.
When I looked at the supermarkets bill I noticed 5,89 € for this pint. For that price I wouldn't buy another one. You have to know that this price included the Finish alcohol tax. Not taking the price into account this is still a decent beer.
The beer was poured from a
