Rock Paper Scissors - A lager from Kupio
Rock Kivi
On my trip to Savonlinna I also stopped for two days in Kuopio. There I bought some of the local produced beers, especially the Rock Kivi (Lager), which according to the bottle label is a dry-hopped lager, which I was intrigued to buy because of the funny label. Best before date was still 5 days due. So I thought it would be a good time to give it a try.
Looking at the glass of fresh cold beer a light turbidity was visible. As a lager is usually filtered I already was suspicious. On its turbid content sat a great portion of foam, actually much too much foam. My suspiciousness rose further.
A light fruity note can be detected. The body’s texture is pretty smooth but also light. Flavor is floral, a taste of honey, little buttery but probably below the average diacetyl threshold. Nice maltiness and sweetness in the middle. It ends with a lasting bitterness. For my personal taste it lasts too long. But it is still ok. CO2 is well balanced.
I’d like to suggest lowering the best before date at least by one month. Due to the turbidity and the heavy foam I guess that not all yeast was filtered out and so some decomposing was still going on.
The beer was poured from a bottle
