Borbecker Helles Dampfbier - Tasting - Dampfe - Helles Dampfbier

On the 29th of Mai 2009 we were sitting at the Brauhaus Dampfe in Essen. I've ordered a Helles of their varietie of beers. The beer was served at a cool temperature in a 0,5 liter glas. The first impression from it's smell was okay but after a while of compensation of the malt smell I could clearly smell butter. The first impression from the taste: bitter, much to bitter and besides that it tasted oxidised. The bitternes was very rought and lingering. From my point of view it was to masty for a Helles which is suppose to be more like a pils or lager. Freshness was ok.

Rüttenscheider Keller - Tasting -

We have been to the Rüttenscheidter Hausbrauerei. The brewery is located in the near of S-Bahn station Martinstraße in the cellar of a huge building. We ordered 2 x 0,5 liter Rüttenscheidter Keller which is, according to their website, a pilsen type beer. The beers were served in a stein. First impression of smell was pure but after some time I detected some traces of yeast like smell. The taste was ok for a pilsen type beer. It wasn't to bitter. While thinking about the bitterness my impression was that it was more the taste of the yeast then that of the hops.

Weavers Gold - Tasting - Weavers Gold

Mark, owner of the Clanconnel Brewery, send me over a bottle of his first beer "Weavers Gold". Poured into a glas the beer comes with a strong foam and its head retention is stable for a long time. Its colour lives up to its name; it's golden. The smell is estery, fruity (mainly apple and citrus), floral and a little bit oily. Overall said: the smell of honey. Its mouthfeel is astringent and after some time dry. The beer is well balanced, has a good body and a perfect tingle.

Ruhrpott Pils

The beer was tasted at the Brauhaus Graf Beust in Essen, Germany. It was served in a 0.3 liter Pilsen glas. The foam was nice and the color, it was a fitlered beer, was perfect gold. The first smell I got was full of Diacetyl. The taste was very buttery. From my point of view this beer was not fermented very well. The smell of Diacetyl made it nearly impossible to keep on drinking. Diacetyl totaly destroys the impression, that's why I'm giving a 2. I will have a second tasting some weeks from now giving the "Ruhrpott Pils" a second chance.

Pinkus Pils

Pinkus Pils Organic Beer

The beer was bought at a Basic supermarket and stored cold. It was pured in a fresh cleaned glas. The beers temperature during tasting was at about 5°C.

The Pilsen type beer brewed in accordance with the German purity law using organic raw materials is a well balanced beer. It's not to fizzy nor to flat. I personally think that there is not enough bitternes to call it a pils. It tastes more like a Baverian Helles.
