Dread Brown Ale
Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing | Ale
June 28, 2006, Santa Cruz, California - Organic Dread Brown Ale wins gold medal and first place in Division of America Brown Ales, California State Fair. This is the first ale by brewster, Emily Thomas, co-owner of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing. Thomas brewed up her first batch of brown ale in the bathtub of her college apartment almost ten years ago. Now she is brewing up thousands of gallons at the brewery with husband, Chad Brill and brother, Nick Thomas. Dread Brown Ale has been certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers.
The ebony appearance of the Dread Brown Ale gives the illusion of being a porter or stout. Don't be deceived. This is definitely brown ale. The aroma is roasted coffee intermingled with freshly baked bread, and a hint of cardamom. Don?t be alarmed. This beer doesn?t have any of those wacky ingredients in it, just organic barley, organic hops and water. The mouthfeel is surprisingly light and crisp but finishes with a bite. The balanced flavors of the Dread Brown Ale create a subtle fluidity of sweet, roasted, and crisp.
